Fort Bend Independent School District serves Sugar Land, Meadows Place and Missouri City and Arcola in Fort Bend county as well as Arcola in Missouri city – it is the forty-fifth largest district in Texas.
What does that mean for Skyward FBISD? Unfortunately, the 88th Texas legislative session ended without taking any steps towards raising teacher pay.
Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses provide learners with challenging career pathways, providing real world experiences to shape their skillset, attitudes and beliefs. CTE courses may lead to high school graduation endorsements, industry certifications or even college credit opportunities.
Learners typically select their pathway in their freshman or sophomore years and begin three years of coursework related to it, in addition to participating in community connections, internships and work-based learning, student associations/clubs and career/postsecondary planning and training.
Ryan Watassek is an exciting senior from James Reese Center in Sugar Land enrolled in Texas State Technical College’s dual enrollment pathway program and focused on auto repair/rebuilding including engine swaps – something he finds particularly rewarding! Often working on older vehicles exhilarates him.
Fine Arts
Students engaged in music learn discipline, cultivate lasting character traits and acquire 21st Century skills such as creativity, critical thinking and communication. Studies have demonstrated that children who participate in arts education achieve greater academic achievements.
At each campus in FBISD, there are elementary music and visual arts programs tailored specifically for each child’s needs. Our curriculum strives to develop art skill and appreciation through hands-on learning experiences such as art history studies and cultural experiences as well as self-expression opportunities.
Fort Bend ISD’s dedication to the arts has earned them recognition from the NAMM Foundation as a national Best Communities for Music Education award recipient. This accolade recognizes schools that have made significant investments to maintain music as part of their curriculum despite growing demands in education, such as funding requirements, graduation requirements, classroom time allocation, instruction time allocation and facility availability.
Athletics
Middle school athletes can participate in a range of sports. All student athletes must submit an up-to-date physical form from either their physician or through Rank One in order to take part.

FBISD is a nationally-recognized school district, recognized for inspiring and equipping its students to realize futures beyond their imagination. To achieve this aim, FBISD caters to each child holistically by attending to academic, social, emotional and physical needs of each student in our care.
District-wide Extended Day programs provide opportunities for Pre-K through Grade 8 children at each of its schools to experience art history, music/dance/cultural arts programs as well as soccer or chess play and outdoor play each day. Children are brought directly by their teachers to Extended Day. Children enjoy daily Specials that may include art history studies, dance/music programs or cultural arts offerings like soccer/chess tournaments – the possibilities are limitless!
Extended Day staff supervise all students under their care, who must sign them out by an adult with photo identification. Extended Day is available before and after school on regular school days, holidays and teacher planning days; parents can register their child online via EZChildTrack.
