How to draw a hill – Allow’s get started!

Stage 1

The key to creating a great landscape is slowly building it with smaller elements. This is the approach we will take during this guide on drawing a hill, as we will gradually add various elements to build the scene. In this first step of the guide, we will draw a pine tree for the scene and the first hill. We will use many smaller curved lines with sharp points at the ends for the pine. The shaft tip will start thin, but the lower sections will gradually become wider. Finally, you can complete this first step by drawing a large curved horizontal line behind the tree. Once these pieces have been removed, we can drag them on to the subsequent stage!

Step 2: Currently, remove another tree and some fodder points.

The first step in this hill drawing saw you add a single pine tree to the scene, and this second step will have you add another one with some smaller details. This second tree will be identical to the first in terms of structure. The major distinction is that showing some attitude will be barely more miniature. To complete this step, you can draw some small jagged lines across the expanse of grass to give it some texture, and then it’s time to move on to step 3.

Step 3: Remove More Hills and Trees

First, we’ll draw some hills in the background. These will be drawn using large rounded lines that overlap each other. You can then draw another tree on the two hills on the left, and again they will gradually get smaller to show perspective. You can add some little grass details to those hills before moving on to the next part.

Step 4: Next, draw more hills for the scene.

Before adding some final details to this hill drawing, let’s finish up the actual hills. To do this, you can continue doing what you started in the previous step of the guide. This means you can draw more rounded lines to add more hills to the background behind the first ones. Like we did with the trees, these hills will get smaller as you move back to show that they are farther away. Then it’s just a matter of completing the final details and touch-ups in the next step!

Step 5: Add Final Details to Your Hill Drawing

In this part, we will add a lot of majestic clouds over the hills to finish the image nicely. To draw these clouds, we will use many small rounded curved lines connected to create a large mass of fluffy clouds. These clouds will also be layered the same way you layered the different hills. Once the clouds are drawn, you can finish with the final details! Please add weather effects, structures, people, and animals enjoying this peaceful scene.

Step 6: Finish Drawing Your Hill With Color

Your drawing of the hill is already beautiful, and in this step, we’ll make it even better with some colors! Our reference image shows you one way to color this peaceful scene. We kept the image bright and cheery by using vibrant greens for the grass and trees.

While you can go for an equally bright and vibrant look, you can create a more subdued look using darker shades. The mediums you use will also add to the feel of the image. For example, you can use watercolors for softer colors.
